China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently unveiled the future product statement from General Motors’ SAIC-GM joint venture, leaking captivating images and intricate technical features of the all-new Chevy Equinox EV. This disclosure, ahead of the official model launch in the country, provides a compelling glimpse into the innovative strides Chevrolet is taking in the electric vehicle (EV)
1LT and 3LT Trims
Unlike the initial leak showcasing the sporty RS trim level with all-wheel drive, the latest images exhibit the Chevy Equinox EV in two distinctive configurations akin to the 1LT and 3LT trims prevalent in North America. Both trims boast front-wheel drive and a single-motor drivetrain mounted on the front axle, each offering unique power outputs to cater to diverse preferences.

The base variant exudes simplicity, adorned with matte black trim and devoid of decorative elements. Meanwhile, the intermediate variant elevates the visual appeal, incorporating body-color wheel arches, chrome moldings, roof rails, and a horizontal light strip connecting the headlamps. Noteworthy is the transparent taillamp lens, distinguishing it from its American counterpart, the 3LT model.
Power-Packed Performance
The heart of the Chinese-market Chevy Equinox EV lies in its powertrain. Both trims feature a front-mounted Ultium Drive motor, generating 150 kW or 201 horsepower in the 1LT equivalent and 180 kW or 241 horsepower in the mid-level 3LT trim. A pivotal detail emerges from SAIC-GM’s statement – the base Equinox EV relies on a ternary lithium-ion battery pack, while the mid-range version opts for a lithium iron phosphate battery, underscoring the versatility and adaptability of Chevrolet’s electric offerings.
